As we age, we start to lose volume in certain areas of the face which can make us look tired and sunken. This is caused by the body’s decreased ability to produce collagen and elastin.

Unlike wrinkles which require muscle relaxants to soften them, facial volume and folds require a dermal filler to help re-volumise and hydrate the area.

Made from a natural sugar already present in the human body – our dermal fillers are an affordable way to replicate the function of this naturally occurring substance and can restore fullness and volume in numerous facial areas.

The most common side effects occur within 24 hours or immediately post-treatment. These include swelling, bruising, redness, and tenderness.

Immediate side effects usually disappear within days. However, depending on the type of Dermal Filler used, it can take a few weeks.

We encourage a complimentary follow-up appointment 2 weeks post-treatment to discuss your tailored treatment results.

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is an injectable Hyaluronic acid treatment rapidly rising in popularity. You may already be familiar with topical hyaluronic acid, as it is very common in the skincare and beauty industries, and for good reason! Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body, which can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, making it especially moisturising and hydrating. When applied to the skin surface, hyaluronic acid makes skin look and feel younger and moisturised, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.Profhilo takes these benefits a step further by injecting a pure, concentrated hyaluronic acid gel into the skin with a very thin needle to stimulate dermal cells, increasing skin elasticity and collagen formation – restoring firmness to the skin from within.

What are the benefits of Profhilo?

Profhilo is basically an injectable moisturiser. By introducing the hyaluronic acid directly into the skin, hydration is promoted from within to create a healthy glow and improved skin appearance. Profhilo also produces longer term benefits by stimulating the production of new collagen, which results in firmer, younger looking skin with an improved surface texture. Profhilo can also help to reduce the appearance of rosacea and photoaged skin. Because of these results, Profhilo has rapidly risen in popularity to become one of the most popular anti-ageing treatments available, and can be used anywhere that may show visible signs of ageing, including the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, and legs.

How does Profhilo work?

While Profhilo contains the same active molecule – hyaluronic acid –  found in dermal fillers, skin care creams, and many other treatments, not all hyaluronic acids are created equally. The chemistry is deep and complex, but put simply, hyaluronic acid molecules of different molecular weights produce different effects and results. Profhilo contains both low and high molecular weight Hyaluronic acid molecules. The lower weight hyaluronic acids are readily absorbed and have a regenerative effect, while the higher weight hyaluronic acids remain in the skin for longer, and retain water to reduce skin sagging. The hyaluronic acids also stimulate dermal cells to produce more collagen. The body will naturally break down the Profhilo fully in about a month, but the new collagen will remain to keep skin looking younger. For the best results, two treatments are recommended one month apart. Continued treatments after a further six months can help prolong the benefits.

How is Profhilo different from fillers?

While both fillers and Profhilo contain hyaluronic acid, fillers also contain BDDE (1,4-butanediol diglycidyl) – cross linking molecules which hold the hyaluronic acid molecules together, to give the fillers their structure and prevent or slow the rate at which the hyaluronic acid is broken down by the body. As a result, fillers typically last for months to years. Profhilo however, is 100% pure hyaluronic acid and contains no BDDE cross linking molecules. Instead, it is stabilised by weaker hydrogen bonds, allowing the body to easily break it down after about 4 weeks, only leaving behind the new collagen formed and a more youthful appearanceProfhilo and fillers also differ in how they are administered and what they are used to treat. Dermal fillers are typically injected into specific areas of the face to create definition and volume in that area, with very little spreading to the rest of the face. Fillers are usually used to counteract the volume lost due to the ageing process.Profhilo is designed and intended to spread out evenly from the injection site to improve the appearance of the whole face, without altering facial features, by improving skin hydration, elasticity, and texture.

Is Profhilo suitable for me?

If you feel your skin is showing visible signs of ageing like dehydration, dullness, and a loss of elasticity, you will definitely benefit from Profhilo treatments! Profhilo is also safe to use in conjunction with dermal fillers and botulinum toxin injections (botox). A consultation with one of our clinicians would be required to ensure there are no contraindications.

What is the Downtime from Profhilo?

Profhilo treatments have very little downtime after treatment. You may experience small raised bumps at the injection sites which should disappear within 24 hours after treatment. It is recommended that you avoid exercise for 24 hours and do not use a steam room or sauna for a few days after treatment. You should also avoid the use of retinol, vitamin C serums, or any other products which could irritate your skin for 24 hours.

Is Profhilo safe?

Yes! Profhilo is safe and FDA approved, and because hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by the body, Profhilo is highly biocompatible and there are minimal side effects other than slight inflammation at the injection site. Profhilo should only be administered by qualified aestheticians, and you should consult our doctor if you have any health concerns before getting the treatment.

Dermal Fillers can last up to three to six months and in some cases longer depending on how fast the body metabolises the product. Lips are a high activity area as we use them all the time, this can impact how long the results will last.

The most common side effects occur within 24 hours or immediately post-treatment. These include swelling, bruising, redness, and tenderness.

Immediate side effects usually disappear within days. However, depending on the type of Dermal Filler used, it can take a few weeks. At BeautyPlus+ Laser Clinic we strongly encourage a review appointment which is complimentary 2 weeks post-treatment to discuss your treatment results.

Dermal Fillers feel like a slight pinch, and you may experience slight pressure or a ‘stinging’ sensation as the product is being injected. pain is such a personal and subjective thing. it all depends on your tolerance and on the treatment area.

For legal reasons, we are unable to publish the brand names of prescription medicines such as Dermal Filler. As one of Australia’s largest network of clinics, we only use market-leading brands. At your complimentary consultation, your Doctor/Cosmetic Injector can freely talk about the options available to you.

We do not offer to dissolve Filler if you were treated outside of our clinic. If you wish to dissolve Filler you received at BeautyPlus+ Laser Clinic, you must book a review with your Doctor/Cosmetic Injector.

Avoid vigorous physical activity or any large intakes of alcohol for 24 hours as this increases the risk of bruising. Aspirin, Vitamin E and Fish Oil Supplement should not be taken one week before the treatment.

As with any BeautyPlus+ Laser Clinic treatment, our Dermal Filler Cosmetic Injectable treatments come with important after-care recommendations in order to achieve the best results. Our experienced medical team share their post-treatment advice:

– Remain upright for four hours following your treatment and avoid lying down while the product settles into place.
– Avoid any Skin Treatments like Microdermabrasion, Skin Needling, or Dermal Rolling for two weeks after Dermal Fillers
– Avoid active skincare products such as Retinol for at least 5 days after the treatment.
– Avoid alcohol and painkillers such as ibuprofen before and after treatment as they tend to thin the blood and can make you prone to bruising.
– Do not exercise for 24 hours after your treatment and avoid any exercise that involves inverted poses (e.g. yoga, pilates, barre, etc) and provoke sweating as the Dermal Filler is settling into place.
– Avoid exposing your skin to excessive heat or cold including saunas, spas, steam rooms, hot yoga, ice baths, or skiing. Changes in temperature can lead you to touch or rub your face more which can put unwanted pressure on the treated muscles, risking dispersion of the protein into unwanted areas.
– Avoid massaging or applying pressure to the face which can affect how the product settles in a particular area. When cleansing the skin and applying skincare and makeup, only use gentle strokes.

No. While Dermal Fillers do stretch the skin slightly to fill into the tissues, it does not have a lasting effect on the skin itself. Your skin will return to its original state when the product metabolises.

Avoid international travel for 2 weeks post-treatment. The prolonged cabin air pressure can cause unpredictable swelling and bruising.

Whilst we have seen amazing results from the treatment, please know that results do vary and we cannot make guarantees. We recommend coming and speaking to our clinic injectors for an in-depth consultation. They will discuss in detail how the treatment works, whether it will be right for your skin type and the expected results in line with your treatment goals.
