Wrinkles are a natural part of the ageing process. With age, our skin gets thinner, drier and we lose elastin. The ability of our skin to protect itself is reduced as we age. Eventually, wrinkles, creases, and lines form on our skin.

Continuous muscle contraction is also another major contributor to facial wrinkles. Continuous muscle movement causes ‘dynamic wrinkles’ which only appear when the muscle is used. Over time, if untreated, these wrinkles can become ‘static wrinkles’ which means they become permanently etched in our skin.

Whilst the face is in motion the lines that appear are known as dynamic wrinkles, however, repeated movement over time forms deeper lines and folds known as static wrinkles.

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections are a safe and reliable way to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Botulinum Toxin Type A is a natural protein that when injected into specific muscles, will cause the muscle to relax. This in turn will soften the lines helping to restore a more youthful, rejuvenated and fresh appearance.

Anti-Wrinkle Injectables work to prevent the formation of static wrinkles by stopping the signal between the nerve and muscle.

The decreased movement in the muscle places less stress on the skin helping you maintain a fresh and youthful appearance. This treatment is most effective when used as a preventative measure.

Anti-Wrinkle Injectables are made from a purified protein that temporarily causes facial muscles to relax, softening lines and wrinkles and reducing the severity of visible wrinkles.

While Cosmetic Injectables are a relatively time-friendly and convenient treatment, it can take anywhere from 2-7 days for you to see a difference, with the full effect visible after two weeks. Something to remember when you’re timing your treatment for a special event.

Depending on the sensitivity of your skin and any medications (like aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood thinners) you may be taking, there is the chance of temporary, minor side effects including

– Mild swelling at or around the injection site

– Mild tenderness or bruising at or around the injection site

– Tiny red dots at the injection site

– A mild headache, depending on the treatment area

Through normal facial expression the muscles of the face contract and the skin around these muscles creases. Over time the skin loses its elasticity and the lines can deepen. External factors such as sun exposure and smoking can accelerate the process.

Is it safe?

Wrinkle relaxing injections are among the most common cosmetic procedures in the world. Botulinum Toxin Type A has been used cosmetically for more than 10 years. The treatment can be prescribed only after consultation with a qualified health care professional such as a doctor or Nurse.

How long will the effects last?

It normally takes 5 days to start working, reaching maximum effect at 2 weeks. It will last for 3-4 months depending on the strength of your facial muscles.

Does it hurt?

There may be very slight discomfort as the fine needle enters the skin. This treatment has virtually no downtime at all, and you can return to you daily activities immediately afterwards. As with any injection there is possibility of bruising or bleeding.

Masseter Jaw Botulinum toxin Treatment

The masseter muscle is located at the bottom of our jaw and is one of the muscle groups responsible for our ability to chew.

Injecting botulinum toxin into the masseter can be used for contouring the jawline- giving the face that coveted V-shape visage or simply creating a balanced face shape.

Apart from aesthetic purposes, masseter botulinum toxin is medically helpful for many reasons such as reducing jaw tension, pain and clenching, relieving headaches, and managing teeth grinding, otherwise known as Bruxism.

Botulinum toxin injection for contouring shoulder

Why inject botulinum toxin into the trapezius muscle?

When injected into specific, well-spaced points on the trapezius, botulinum toxin can effectively relax key points in the muscle group, reducing tension in the muscle fibres. This treatment is known as the “Collarbone Injection” and have 2 main effects as listed below:

1. Contouring the shoulder and neck line

The most visible effects of botulinum toxin on the trapezius is to slim down and contour the shoulder and neck line. A large, well-defined trapezius is often considered a masculine feature, and is usually undesired in females. Disproportionately large trapezius muscles, especially in females, can make the shoulder line look awkward and unattractive. In addition, it also tends to make the neck appear shorter, and the face appear larger.

Botulinum toxin injections can effectively relax and weaken overdeveloped trapezius muscles, reducing their perceived volume. This slims down the neck and shoulder line, which can in turn make the face appear smaller.  Moreover, the relaxed trapezius can make the collarbones more visible and well defined. Overall, this leads to more attractive and feminine body frame.

2. Relieving stiffness and muscle pain in the lower neck and shoulders

In addition to the aesthetic effects, botulinum toxin can also effectively alleviate pain and stiffness in the lower neck and shoulders associated with the trapezius muscle. In general, most instances of neck and shoulder pain can be traced back to tense muscles. In this case, botulinum toxin injections partially paralyse the target muscle groups, releasing tension and stiffness in the trapezius, and can effectively sooth any associated pain and discomfort.

How does it work?

Most of us would be familiar with how botulinum toxin works for facial lines- by disrupting the nerve signals to target sites and preventing muscle contractions, the appearance of fine lines smoothen and ‘disappear’ temporarily.

For muscle contouring, or “body botulinum toxin”, the method is relatively similar to that of the face – both require intramuscular injection that targets the specific muscle groups. The goal is not to paralyse the muscle completely but rather to debulk hypertrophic muscles and to weaken it just a little more than you would in the face. The effects of this muscle atrophy (weakening them due to inactivity) results in thinner muscles which in turn provide the illusion of a slimmer and more defined silhouette.

Treatment procedure

Botulinum toxin treatment for the trapezius is straightforward. After a consultation session with our doctors to discuss your concerns and expectations, our doctors will mark out several strategic points on your trapezius and inject the required units of botulinum toxin into these points. The entire session will only take 10 to 30 minutes, and you can return to your daily activities immediately after.

How long does the treatment take?

As with most other injectables, botulinum toxin treatment of the trapezius will take only about 10 to 30 minutes to complete, depending on the number of injection sites.

Is the treatment painful?

As with most other injectables, some slight, but tolerable pain is to be expected. Anaesthesia is usually not required, but topical anaesthesia (numbing cream) can be applied if desired

Is there any downtime?

All botulinum toxin treatments have minimal to no downtime. You are usually able to resume daily activities immediately after the treatment.

There may be some redness and swelling immediately after the injection. However, this is usually not very noticeable and will subside within a few hours. Also, you may experience some mild soreness and muscle weakness in the area for a few days as the botulinum toxin begins to take effect.

When can I see results?

Slight results can be seen in about a week, with the best effects showing in about 3 to 4 weeks.

Are the effects permanent?

Most botulinum toxin treatments lasts for about 6 to 12 months depending on the individual conditions. However, if there are regular treatments once every 3 to 4 months for about 2 to 3 years, your trapezius muscles can become weakened permanently, and fewer subsequent treatments will be needed.

I am looking to reduce neck and shoulder pain, but I do not wish to alter my shoulder and neck line. Can I still opt for botulinum toxin?

It is possible to undergo botulinum toxin treatment for pain relieve with minimal changes to the appearance of the neck and shoulder lines. Do discuss this with our doctors during the consultation so they can adjust the injection points and number of botulinum toxin units accordingly.

Botulinum toxin injection for contouring  Lower Legs Calves Muscle

Botulinum toxin in the calves is used as a form of calf reduction, which refers to creating a smooth contour from the knees to the ankles that result in a slimmer lower leg. Hence, calf botulinum toxin reduces the muscles in the lower leg area to produce a slimmer and more defined silhouette. The treatment works by administering botulinum toxin into the gastrocnemius muscle, which is the most superficial muscle responsible for the calf’s shape and definition.

The time taken for this treatment is often less than an hour, though it takes at least two sessions to see noticeable results, lasting for about six months. Keep in mind that patients who exercise frequently may require more sessions for longer-lasting results.

Like the procedures above, there is almost no downtime, and patients can return to their normal activities. However, we recommend avoiding strenuous physical activity for at least 24 to 48 hours after the treatment.

Is Botulinum toxin good for underarm sweating?

Botulinum toxin is an injectable medication that’s most well-known for its wrinkle-smoothing power. But it’s also great at stopping armpit sweat. It decreases underarm moisture by 82% to 87%. Dryness typically lasts between three to 12 months.

Body odor decreases, too. The funky smell from sweaty pits is made by bacteria that thrive in warm, moist places. Eliminate the moisture and the odor goes away as well.

But getting underarm Botulinum toxin doesn’t mean you’re completely off the hook when it comes to wearing deodorant or antiperspirant. The goal of botulinum toxin injections is to reduce profuse sweating to a normal or slightly less-than-normal amount. Most people still have a little bit of sweating and may find they need deodorant or antiperspirant. But it varies from person to person.

Botulinum toxin is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) of the underarms. Doctors also use it for other abnormally sweaty areas of the body.

However, it can be more painful, and there’s a higher risk of side effects, if you treat the following areas with botulinum toxin:

  • Hands.
  •
  • Feet.
  •
  • Under the breasts.
  •
  • Head.
  •
  • Face.

How botulinum toxin for sweating works

Botulinum toxin works by temporarily blocking the chemicals that signal it’s time for your glands to produce sweat. It doesn’t affect touch or sensation in the underarm area.

You only need one office visit to complete botulinum toxin treatment for underarm sweating. The procedure typically involves 25 injections in each armpit. Each time, your healthcare provider injects a small amount of Botox just under the skin’s surface with an extremely small needle.

Some people don’t even feel the injections. But if they do, they say it’s more uncomfortable than truly painful. It’s similar to a rubber band snap.

You should see an improvement in sweating in about three to four days. The full, moisture-busting effects happen at around two weeks.

Are there side effects from botulinum toxin injections?

Sweat is necessary to cool your body. So if you get botulinum toxin injections to stop underarm sweat, does it prevent your body from cooling down? No — because each area of your body that sweats has only a fraction of your total sweat glands. Your underarms contain 2% of them. Reducing sweating in a few small areas won’t affect your body’s ability to cool down.

Another concern people have is that sweating less in one part of your body will increase sweat in other parts. But that doesn’t happen, either.

Botulinum toxin injections in the armpits have almost no side effects besides the immediate discomfort of the injections. The most common side effect is muscle weakness, but that’s more of a concern for areas like the palms.

Everyone experiences pain differently and has different pain thresholds. However, when it comes to Anti-Wrinkle Cosmetic Injectables, most clients compare the sensation of the face injections to a quick prick. There is a slight pinching feeling, but it only lasts for a few seconds.

At BeautyPlus+ Laser Clinic, Anti-Wrinkle treatments require no anaesthetic. However, a topical anaesthetic can be used if needed. Please obtain this from your Pharmacist prior to your treatment.

Avoid vigorous physical activity or any large intakes of alcohol for 24 hours as this increases the risk of bruising. Aspirin, Vitamin E and Fish Oil Supplement should not be taken one week before the treatment.

To determine the correct dosage, we advise you to book in for a complimentary consultation with our experienced Doctor/Cosmetic Injector.

No. Your safety is our main concern and for this reason, we do not treat clients who are pregnant. We advise against all cosmetic injectable treatments whilst pregnant simply out of precaution and due to the lack of information available on cosmetic injectable treatment effects on the fetus.

Anti-Wrinkle treatments begin to work 2-3 days after the treatment and reach their full effect within 7-14 days. The effects can typically last for up to 3-4 months depending on the individual.

It is recommended to repeat the treatment before the muscle movements return to normal which is typically 3-4 months. This way there is an overlap in results and a continued softening effect.

For legal reasons, we are unable to publish the brand names of prescription medicines such as Anti-Wrinkle and Dermal Fillers. As Australia’s largest network of clinics, we only use market-leading brands. At your complimentary consultation, your Doctor/Cosmetic injector can freely talk about the options suitable to you.

Whilst we have seen amazing results from the treatment, please know that results do vary and we cannot make guarantees. We recommend coming and speaking to our clinic injectors for an in-depth consultation.
